 How it all began.......

The organization began when a small group of people held a meeting on  November 14, 1982. Their purpose was to determine how many Caboverdians lived in the greater Los Angeles area, and to discuss the possibility of establishing their own group.

Now, over twenty-five years later, the Cape Verdeans of Southern California has grown into a highly effective organization contributing to the advancement of fellow Caboverdians throughout Southern California and the Diaspora. Supported soley by it’s  Membership and local supporters of  Cape Verdean and  Non Cape Verdean Ancestry.

The organization has  sponsored   many social and cultural events throughout the years.  We have been involved with numerous community groups highlighting our unique culture. Through our newsletter and website we have attempted to educate, to publicize and to communicate our goals, objectives, and activities.

We have also provided school supplies to four schools on the Islands of Brava, Boa Vista, São Tiago and Fogo to support students in their education.  Our organization has responded to special requests for financial aid to assist in obtaining medical supplies for hospitals on these islands.

With the establishment of the “Tiny Lopes Scholarship Fund”, academic scholarships have been awarded each year to many deserving students throughout the United States.
